In a World Cup rematch, US women win again. See highlights from today and last year
Rose Lavelle scored against the Netherlands again, Kristie Mewis scored in her first appearance for the United States in six years and the U.S. women won a rematch of last year’s World Cup final by the same score, 2-0.
The United States hadn’t played in 261 days because of the coronavirus pandemic. The top-ranked Americans have won all nine matches they’ve played this year. They’re 11-0-0 under coach Vlatko Andonovski, who took over after Jill Ellis stepped down last year.
Nine of the 11 U.S. starters for the final were in the starting lineup on Friday.
The United States retained the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, winning it for a fourth time, after beating the Netherlands in the France 2019 Final.
