Knight scores 3 in USA hockey gold-medal win over Canada

Hilary Knight scored three times, including the go-ahead goal with 3:10 left in regulation, and the Americans won their 10th women's world hockey championships gold medal and first in four years with a 6-3 win over cross-border rival Canada. Caroline Harvey had a goal and assist, and Abbey Murphy and Cayla Barnes, with an empty-net goal, also scored. The Americans scored four unanswered goals in the third period.

Hachimura powers Lakers past Grizzlies in Game 1

Rui Hachimura had a career-best playoff scoring performance with 29 points, including 21 in the second half, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-112 on Sunday in the opening game of their Western Conference playoff series. 

Kane, Tarasenko among NHL's most impactful midseason trades

The New York Rangers made the biggest splash at the trade deadline with the addition of Patrick Kane just weeks after getting Vladimir Tarasenko. The veteran forwards bolstered the Rangers' top two lines and give coach Gerard Gallant different options as he juggles them in search of the right mix. Tarasenko was acquired from St. Louis on Feb. 9. He had eight goals and 13 assists in 31 games with the Rangers after having 10 goals and 19 assists in 39 games with the Blues. Kane came over from Chicago on Feb. 28. He totaled five goals and seven assists in 19 games with the Rangers after having 16 goals and 29 assists in 54 games with the Blackhawks.

BOSTON — After an opener that went from rout to flirting with catastrophe, the Boston Celtics got both a win and an early reminder of how lulls could spell doom in the playoffs.

Oklahoma women win second straight NCAA gymnastics title

Trinity Thomas of Florida tied the all-time record with her 28th career perfect 10 and Oklahoma won its second consecutive team title — the Sooner' sixth in the last nine years — at the NCAA women's gymnastics championships. Oklahoma finished with 198.3875 points, 0.15 ahead of Thomas and the Gators.

Stanford wins 4th straight NCAA gymnastics championship

Freshman Fred Richard of Michigan won three individual crowns — including the all-around — and Stanford's Asher Hong and Taylor Burkhart went 1-2 in the vault to help the Cardinal win their fourth consecutive title at the NCAA gymnastics championships. Stanford won its ninth national title with 422.458 points, 2.569 ahead of Richard and the second-place Wolverines. Illinois was third, followed by Oklahoma, Nebraska and Penn State.

US to face rival Canada for gold at women's worlds

It'll be United States and Canada meeting in the women's world hockey gold medal game for the 21st time in 22 tournaments. Captain Hilary Knight, Amanda Kessel and Tessa Janecke each scored twice, and the United States secured its berth with a 9-1 rout of the Czech Republic. The two-time defending champion Canadians advanced with Sarah Fillier scoring three times in a 5-1 win over Switzerland in the other semifinal.

Heat eliminate Bulls 102-91, will face Bucks in Round 1

Max Strus and Jimmy Butler scored 31 points apiece, and the Miami Heat got into the playoffs by rallying in the final minutes to beat the Chicago Bulls 102-91 in an Eastern Conference play-in game Friday night. Tyler Herro added 12 points and Bam Adebayo grabbed 17 rebounds for Miami, which trailed by six midway through the final quarter. DeMar DeRozan led the Bulls with 26 points and nine assists.

Jokic, Embiid, Antetokounmpo finalists for NBA MVP award

Nikola Jokic is a finalist to win a third straight NBA MVP award, with Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo the players who can stop him. The three leading vote-getters for the league’s individual awards were announced Friday and the marquee category featured familiar names. Jokic repeated as MVP last year, with Embiid the runner-up and Antetokounmpo third.
