Friends Remember Teen Killed In Crash
CHARLOTTE, Kan. – Friends and classmates gathered Saturday night to remember a Charlotte teen who died in a car crash earlier this week. West Meck sophomore Heaven Seay was only 15 years old.
Payton Eubanks says she found comfort in a stuffed animal that belonged to Seay. “(Seay was) my best friend in life, like, my everything, my go to, my therapist,” Eubanks explains.
Seay died Tuesday morning when the car she was in went off Windy Grove Road and hit a tree.
Friends and classmates shared memories late into the night Saturday around a cross at the spot where the accident happened. They describe her as a caring and artistic person who was also a free spirit.
“She’d be the one who you’d want to talk to cause she’d listen, she’d give you good tips about life and everything,” says Gastonia resident Juan David.
It has been a week of mourning for classmates at West Mecklenburg High School. Students painted a rock in front of the school to remember her.
Two other classmates who were in the car. Eighteen-year-old Gerado Gillen and 18-year-old Esmeralda Hermosillo are in the hospital with serious injuries.
Charges are pending against the driver, Austin Locke, also 18. He is in critical condition. Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash.
Classmates say though Seay is gone, they know she’s smiling down on them.
“She was kind of quiet but when you’d see her smile; you always knew that it was genuine,” says Faith Bailey. “I mean, I know I’m never going to be able to see it again, but she was just an amazing person, and that’s how I want everyone to remember her by.”
