Jaguars unveil 'stadium of future'

The Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled conceptual designs for their “stadium of the future” on Wednesday, providing an initial glimpse into a billion-dollar-plus project that could determine the fate of the small-market franchise. The renderings showed covered seating throughout a 62,000-seat, open-air stadium that includes a 360-degree concourse, which is four times wider than the current space. Capacity could be expanded to 71,500 for the annual Florida-Georgia rivalry, the Gator Bowl or a College Football Playoff game.

IOC recommends terminating boxing body's Olympic status

The IOC finally ran out of patience with the International Boxing Federation and has set a date to terminate its Olympic status this month. Boxing will still be on the program at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the International Olympic Committee said its executive board has asked the full membership to finally withdraw IBA's recognition at a special meeting on June 22. Ousting the IBA from the Olympic family now looks like a formality. The IOC suspended the boxing governing body's recognition in 2019 citing concerns with finances, the integrity of judging bouts and governance.

Legend of 'Jactani' grows as Florida moves closer to returning to CWS

Jeffrey Alan Caglianone is better known as Jac and playfully nicknamed "Jactani" as an ode to two-way MLB sensation Shohei Ohtani. Florida's star pitcher/first baseman has captivated teammates, coaches and fans while putting the second-ranked Gators in position to return to the College World Series for the first time since 2018. He is the program's best two-way player since Brad Wilkerson, one of the county's most intriguing pro prospects for 2024 and could be the face of amateur baseball by the time his record-setting season ends.

Sky competitive after massive changes following 2021 WNBA title

Chicago has had massive roster changes since winning its first championship two years ago. Kahleah Copper is the lone starter remaining from that team as Candace Parker, Courtney Vandersloot, Azura Stevens and Allie Quigley are all gone. Copper has embraced the challenge of her new leadership role and has gotten off to a strong start this year in helping the Sky win four of their first seven games. She is averaging a career-best 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Sycamores fearlessly hit road for college baseball's Super Regionals

Of course Indiana State would rather be hosting this weekend's NCAA baseball Super Regionals. They've earned it. But finding workers for an unexpected third consecutive weekend of baseball tourneys and a scheduling conflict with Indiana's annual Special Olympics Summer Games made it impossible. So the surprising Sycamores promise will hit the road, needing two wins at TCU this weekend to make their second College World Series and their first since 1986. And a win at perennial power Vanderbilt earlier this season has made them fearless.

Alabama's Saban visits kids with cancer before lobbying trip to D.C.

Alabama coach Nick Saban is going from a visit with children with cancer to a business trip to Washington. Saban heads to Capitol Hill on Wednesday as part of a Southeastern Conference contingent to make the pitch for federal regulation of how college athletes can make money off their fame. It's the most significant trip of the week for the Alabama coach, if not the most personally meaningful for the grandfather of a 9-year-old and 3-year-old. That was a trip to Children's Hospital for the Aflac man, who handed out robotic ducks produced by the company.

Oklahoma faces Florida State, seeking 3rd straight softball title

Oklahoma can become the first Division I softball program in more than 30 years to win three straight national championships. To get there, the Sooners must get through Florida State's Kathryn Sandercock — one of the nation's top pitchers in recent years. Oklahoma and Florida State will meet Wednesday in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series best-of-three championship series. Oklahoma is on a Division I-record 51-game win streak and leads the nation in scoring, batting average and home runs.

Hill made 29 saves and Marchessault had an assist to finish with three points.

The SEC could advance two more teams.

Tiare Jennings doubled in the ninth inning to score two runs and No. 1 seed Oklahoma defeated No. 9 Stanford 4-2 to earn a shot at its third straight Women's College World Series title. The Sooners increased their Division I record to 51 consecutive victories. They advanced to play Florida State or Tennessee for the national championship. Oklahoma looks to become the first program since UCLA in 1988-90 to win three consecutive championships. The best-of-three championship series starts Wednesday.

The ceremony was held on the former parking lot which is being cleared for construction and located across the street from the team's current home. The new facility will carry over the naming rights of Highmark Stadium after the team reached a long-term agreement with the health insurance provider. Among those on hand was Mary Wilson, whose late husband Ralph Wilson founded the franchise in 1960.

NIL Summit generates predictions of more dramatic changes

The second annual NIL Summit has delivered predictions of more dramatic changes to the landscape of college sports. This comes only days before a contingent of Southeastern Conference coaches and administrators will ask for federal help in regulating the expanding ability of college athletes to earn money while still in school. The three-day NIL Summit ended Monday at the College Football Hall of Fame. Athletes' new-found ability to earn money off their name, image and likeness has the potential to create more dramatic change in all college sports. There were predictions college athletes will be classified as employees and form unions.

NBA says it won't mind where Wembanyama's debut comes

Victor Wembanyama's next couple of weeks are now set. He'll be playing in the French league finals starting this weekend, and then the San Antonio Spurs almost certainly will make him the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft on June 22. And if that means the French teenager's summer league debut comes in Sacramento instead of Las Vegas in early July, the league is fine with that.
