Kim leads Levito at Four Continents skating championships

Yelim Kim breezed through a near-flawless short program to edge 15-year-old American rival Isabeau Levito and build the slimmest of leads on Thursday night at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. The 20-year-old rrom South Korean scored 72.84 points for her program. Levito was second with 71.50 points, and she would have been within a point of the lead if not for a point deduction for a time violation. South Korea's Chaeyeon Kim was third, followed by Americans Amber Glenn and Bradie Tennell. The competition in Colorado Springs, Colorado, between non-European nations continues later Thursday with the men's short program.

MLB prepared to take over local TV broadcasts from Sinclair

About $1 billion of Major League Baseball's revenue is at risk if a cable television company fails to make payments for local broadcasting rights to 14 teams, and the sport is preparing to take over telecasts. He adds: "Our goal would be to make games available not only within the traditional cable bundle but on the digital side, as well."

Favre sues auditor, sportscasters in defamation case

Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre has filed lawsuits accusing the Mississippi state auditor and two national sportscasters of defaming him in public discussions about the misspending of welfare money that was supposed to help some of the poorest people in the nation. The suits were filed Thursday in Mississippi. Favre is not facing criminal charges in the Mississippi welfare scandal, but he is among more than three dozen people or businesses the state is suing to try to recover misspent money through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

Longtime NFL veterans finding the playoff promised land

Carlos Dunlap signed with the Kansas City Chiefs because the longtime NFL defensive end was tired of losing. Six times he had appeared in the playoffs and yet he never won a game. Now, Dunlap might book-end his first playoff victory with one in the Super Bowl when the Chiefs play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The same magical ride is playing out on their other sideline, where veterans Robert Quinn and Darius Slay had never won a playoff game before this year. Wins over the Giants and 49ers took them off the same dubious list where Dunlap once resided, and now they have an opportunity at a championship.

Coach Fred Hoiberg says Tominaga's celebrations after he makes long 3-pointers also bring joy to his teammates.
