Pitch clock violation costs the Braves a walk-off walk

Baseball's new rules designed to improve pace of play are coming fast at everyone, particularly the players. The most dramatic moment of the new pitch clock era arrived on the first full day of spring games. Cal Conley of the Atlanta Braves thought he had won the game with a two-out, bases-loaded walk-off walk. He took a few steps toward first base with bat in hand when umpire John Libka indicated strike three. Conley wasn't set in the box as the clock wound under eight seconds. The penalty is an automatic strike.

Ask Mr. Dad: Come on, Kiddo, act your age

Dear Mr. Dad: My 5-year-old son was completely toilet trained, had given up his pacifier, and was chattering away in full sentences. But ever since we brought our infant daughter home from the hospital, he’s regressed. He’s having accidents almost every night, has started sucking his thumb, and is speaking like a two-year old. What’s going on? And what can we do to get our boy to start acting his age again?

Northwestern men back on steady footing, eyeing 2nd NCAA run

Northwestern coach Chris Collins is once again on solid footing. And so are the Wildcats. Northwestern is second in the Big Ten and on course for its second NCAA Tournament appearance in seven years. The Wildcats knocked off a team ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time and have a program-record four wins over ranked opponents. It's a big turnaround, considering Collins looked like he might get fired a year ago.

Padres' Machado draws first pitch clock violation

Tick, tock, Manny Machado. Better watch that pitch clock. Baseball’s new pitch clock made its competitive debut during a limited schedule of spring training openers and wouldn’t you know it, it was Machado, the San Diego Padres’ All-Star slugger, not a pitcher, who was called for the first violation.Â
