In ACC's OC shuffle, new coaches debuted to mixed results

An overhaul on Atlantic Coast Conference coaching staffs this offseason has left some teams struggling to adapt to to new systems. There are eight new offensive coordinators in the ACC this season — more than half of the league. Some ACC teams made changes to shore up offenses that were slipping; others had to replace coaches who left for better jobs. Clemson fired offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter after just one full season as the offensive play-caller and hired Garrett Riley away from Texas Christian, where he helped the Horned Frogs reach the national championship game. Coach Dabo Swinney didn't get the improvement he hoped for in a 28-7 loss to Duke that dropped the Tigers from No. 9 to No. 25 in The Associated Press Top 25.

AP Top 25 Reality Check: Have Deion Sanders and Colorado already peaked?

The Week 1 result that seems really meaningful but turns out not to be is a time-honored tradition in college football. The gold standard of this category is the infamous "Texas is back" game in 2016 when the Longhorns beat Notre Dame in overtime. The teams finished a combined 9-15. No. 21 Duke and No. 22 Colorado rode big upsets in high-profile games this past weekend to spots in the first regular-season AP Top 25 of the season Tuesday. Reality Check wonders: Has Deion Sanders' Buffaloes peaked already?

No. 22 Colorado off to flying start by following Deion Sanders' lead

Deion Sanders wants his players reading all about how good they are because the Colorado coach isn't one to keep his players grounded. He prefers them flying high. After beating heavily favored TCU last weekend, the Buffaloes moved into the AP Top 25 poll at No. 22. The unconventional Sanders is proving to be a master motivator. He's all about not running from publicity but remembering it. He has his team at the center of the college football universe, at least for now. The 22nd-ranked Buffs will host old rival Nebraska this Saturday in the home debut for Sanders.

Arrivals of West Coast schools could cause Big Ten to change its style

The Big Ten's westward expansion could challenge the league's reputation for smashmouth football. No Power Five conference relies more on defense and the running game than the Big Ten. The arrival of Southern California, UCLA, Oregon and Washington next year with their high-powered offenses just might change that. Six Big Ten schools ranked among the nation's top 14 teams in total defense last year. No Big Ten team other than Ohio State has finished in the top 20 in total offense each of the last five seasons.

Big 12 faces a week of big-time matchups after a tough start

There are some heavyweight showdowns for Big 12 schools in Week 2 of the college football season. Texas-Alabama tops the list, but Iowa plays Iowa State, Utah faces Baylor, Cincinnati takes on Pittsburgh, Kansas plays Illinois, Texas Tech plays Oregon and Oklahoma faces Arizona State. If the Big 12 wants to a big player after college football realignment, now is the time to prove it, especially after the league was embarrassed a week ago. Among the lumps the league took, TCU lost at home to Colorado, Texas Tech fell to Wyoming and Baylor was beaten by Texas State.

Pac-12 announces it will not go quietly

The self-proclaimed Conference of Champions has announced it will not go quietly with a perfect weekend of football. With No. 6 Southern California's opening win over San Jose State, the Pac-12 has started the season 13-0 for the first time since 1932. It's also the most wins by an FBS conference without a loss to start a season since at least 1980. No. 22 Colorado had the biggest win of the first full week of games, knocking off TCU in Fort Worth despite being a nearly three-touchdown underdog. Southern California has already won two games after rolling over its first two opponents.
