1894 — Jim Corbett knocks out Charley Mitchell in the third round to retain the world heavyweight title.
Heavyweight boxer James Corbett is shown in the 1890s. In 1892, Corbett knocked out John L. Sullivan in the 21st round to win the first heavyweight boxing championship title under the new Queensberry regulations in New Orleans, La., for a purse of $25,000.
