Brittney Griner absent from USA camp, but keeping in touch

Brittney Griner texted her good friend Diana Taurasi on Tuesday morning asking how the USA Basketball training camp was going. Griner was back in Arizona, choosing to skip the camp in Minnesota so she can be with her wife and recover from her time in a Russian jail.

Scoring King: James passes Abdul-Jabbar for NBA points mark

LeBron James is the NBA’s new career scoring leader. With a stepback jumper with 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter Tuesday night against Oklahoma City, James pushed his career total to 38,388 points and broke the record that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar held for nearly four decades.

Recruiting connection helped land Parker in Vegas

Nikki Fargas was an assistant coach at Tennessee when she successfully recruited Candace Parker in 2004. Parker would go on to lead the Volunteers to national championships in 2007 and 2008. She earned consensus national player of the year as a senior. Fargas is now the Las Vegas Aces president. She found herself again recruiting Parker last month, convincing the two-time WNBA MVP to sign with the defending champions. Parker is one of four former No. 1 overall draft picks on the Aces' roster.

Tchatchoua, a 'walking miracle,' back for No. 14 Baylor

Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua (CHAWM-wuh CHAT-chew-wuh) sees himself as a walking miracle after getting back on the court for 14th-ranked Baylor nearly a full year after a gruesome left knee injury. He is a testament to an unwavering spiritual faith and hard work. The 6-foot-8 forward from Cameroon with the nickname "Everyday Jon" went 51 weeks between tearing multiple ligaments in his left knee last Feb. 12 to returning for the Bears last Saturday. Coach Scott Drew says God blessed the big forward by allowing him to recover. Many people thought he'd never play again.
