Late goaltending call sends Butler past No. 13 Xavier

Jalen Taylor scored 20 points and Eric Hunter Jr. took advantage of a goaltending call with 2.5 seconds left to give Butler 69-67 upset over No. 13 Xavier. Souley Boum's long heave at the buzzer bounced off the back of the rim for Xavier. Colby Jones had 17 points and eight rebounds and Jack Nunge had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Musketeers. It was a wacky final 30 seconds.

Chock and Bates lead at Four Continents figure skating

Madison Chock and Evan Bates took the lead after the rhythm dance at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships on Friday as the American ice dancers seek their third title in the marquee international event. They scored 87.67 points to their program set to "Let's Dance" by David Bowie. That was enough to edge Canadian national champs Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Soerensen, who scored 86.28 points, and Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, who scored 79.04 points. The pairs competition also began Friday at Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where world silver medalists Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara of Japan took the lead.

Irvin files $100m lawsuit after misconduct claim

McKINNEY, Texas — Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages, claiming he was falsely accused of misconduct by a female employee at a Phoenix hotel.

Move by Texas, Oklahoma from Big 12 to SEC bumped to 2024

Texas and Oklahoma are heading to the Southeastern Conference in 2024 after Big 12 officials cleared the way for the storied programs to exit their league a year earlier than planned. Texas and Oklahoma will leave behind the $50 million each school would have received over the next two seasons under the Big 12′s media contracts. Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormak said the league would only agree to an early departure “if it was in our best interest.” The agreement must still be approved the Texas and Oklahoma boards of regents, but that is considered a formality.

Mahomes wins second MVP award

Patrick Mahomes dominated the voting for the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award. Now, he'll try to break the MVP curse. Mahomes, who also won in 2018, easily outdistanced Jalen Hurts, receiving 48 of 50 first-place votes from a nationwide panel of media members who regularly cover the league. He earned 490 points to 193 for Hurts, who got one first-place vote, 26 seconds, 11 thirds and 10 fourths. Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs face Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
