New Mexico State players interviewed about alleged hazing

The chancellor at New Mexico State says players on the basketball team were interviewed by school personnel about an alleged hazing incident that led to the suspension of the program. In a letter to the school community, chancellor Dan Arvizu said he was heartbroken and sickened to hear about these hazing allegations. Arvizu said the team, which arrived back in Las Cruces after their game at California Baptist was canceled, would remain under suspension until further notice. His letter came out a few hours after two players, Shahar Lazar and Kent Olewiler, announced on social media that they were leaving the team.

Miura and Kihara win Four Continents skating championship

Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara became the first Japanese pairs skaters to win the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships when they overcame a couple of mistakes in their free skate to easily win the title Saturday. They scored scored 137.05 points Saturday for a total of 208.24, easily outdistancing the American team of Emily Chan and Spencer Akira Howe. Chan and Howe vaulted to the silver medal with 201.11 points while Canadian champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps struggled to a third-place finish with 193.84 points. The men's free skate is later Saturday.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts played three seasons at Alabama and led the Crimson Tide to a national title game appearance as a freshman. He accounted for 53 total touchdowns and was a second-place Heisman finisher during his lone season with Oklahoma. Jasmine Flury's downhill win at ski worlds aided by warm weather

Swiss skier Jasmine Flury has won gold in the women’s downhill at the world championships on a rough day for the pre-race favorites. Flury edged Austrian skier Nina Ortlieb by 0.04 seconds for her first career medal at major championships. Sofia Goggia was disqualified after skiing through a gate. Mikaela Shiffrin sat out the race.

GM Pelinka: Don't blame Westbrook for all of Lakers' woes

General manager Rob Pelinka says Russell Westbrook doesn't deserve all the blame for the Lakers' struggles throughout his time in Los Angeles. Pelinka is still quite excited about the Lakers' future after a flurry of trades, including the deal that sent Westbrook away after less than two seasons. Pelinka says he swapped out nearly half of the Lakers' roster at the trade deadline to improve their chances for a late playoff run, but also because the moves will make the Lakers much more likely to be a contender next year and into the future.
