Pat McCormick, 4-time Olympic diving champion, dies at 92

Pat McCormick, the first diver to sweep the 3-meter and 10-meter events at consecutive Olympics, has died at 92. Her son, Tim McCormick, says his mother died Tuesday of natural causes in Santa Ana, California. McCormick won the springboard and platform titles at the 1952 Helsinki Games and repeated the feat four years later at the Melbourne Olympics. Greg Louganis equaled McCormick's accomplishment at the 1984 and '88 Olympics.

Panthers acquire No. 1 overall pick from Bears

The Carolina Panthers are on the clock. Two people familiar with the deal say the Panthers have traded up to acquire the No. 1 pick in the draft from the Chicago Bears. In exchange, the Bears will receive Carolina's No. 9 and No. 61 overall picks in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2024, a second-round pick in 2025 and wide receiver D.J. Moore. Ex-Alabama player Darius Miles indicted on capital murder charges

The lawyer for former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles says he and Michael Davis have been indicted by a grand jury on capital murder charges for the January shooting death of a 23-year-old woman near campus. AL.com reports that Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Hays Webb told the newspaper that the indictments were issued Wednesday.

Mike Trout leads US in WBC at apex of stellar baseball career

Mike Trout was asked to be a part of this U.S. team for the World Baseball Classic. He didn’t have to be. The 31-year-old slugger knew he wanted to join this group ever since he watched the U.S. win the WBC title in 2017. The follow-up tournament was delayed two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. opens it title defense against Britain on Saturday night. They’re a part of Pool C, which also includes Canada, Mexico and Colombia.

Iowa State knocks out No. 10 Baylor 78-72 in Big 12 quarters

Gabe Kalscheur hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points to help Iowa State beat No. 10 Baylor  in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. The Cyclones will play Friday in the semifinals. Jalen Bridges was nearly perfect for Baylor, going 10 of 11 from the field, 6 of 6 from the 3-point arc and finishing with a career-best 28 points.
