Former NBA guard Craig Hodges discusses coaching with Lakers, marijuana use in league | Here Weed Go! podcast
In the latest episode of the Here Weed Go! podcast, host Eddie Celaya of the Arizona Daily Star is joined by four-time NBA champion and cannabis advocate Craig Hodges for the second half of a two-part conversation.
This episode picks up with Hodges delving into his coaching time with the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant for Phil Jackson, cannabis at the end of his career, his involvement with marijuana advocacy now and the answer to the Michael Jordan vs. Kobe Bryant debate.
Hodges, the subject of an upcoming documentary about his life, advocacy and social justice work, was one of the NBAs first true 3-point shooters, winning the league’s 3-point contest three years in a row, a feat matched only by Larry Bird.
He still boats the single best round ever recorded in the contest, hitting 25 of a possible 30 shots.
Part I with Craig Hodges
For the first part of our discussion, Celaya talks with Hodges about his time growing up near Chicago, his history with cannabis and his college and professional basketball career.
Eventually, they touch on Hodges’ time at Long Beach State under legendary coach Tex Winters, the approach to cannabis in the late 1970s and early ’80s by the NCAA and NBA, and his now infamous trip with the Chicago Bulls to the White House after their second championship in 1991.
